When
it comes to hiring the right speaker, you need a proven leader
and motivator. Dr. David Metzen will get you the results your
organization is striving for. He has experienced first-hand what
it takes to lead an organization. Dr. Metzen has shared his
knowledge on leadership, team building and communication with a
wide range of companies. He knows what it takes to motivate…to
coach…and to manage, through sometimes overwhelming change -
from both within and without. Throughout his career, Dr. Metzen
has taken the complex issues of leadership and distilled them
down into practical applications and specific how-tos.
A former University of Minnesota Gopher Hockey Captain, Dr.
Metzen spent 30 years in the South St. Paul school system,
serving as their superintendent for 18 years. During his tenure,
Dr. Metzen transformed a school district from one that
emphasized athletics to one that emphasized academics and the
arts. He also launched the state’s largest grass roots public
school educational foundation. He was a longtime Director at
American Bank, part owner of a real estate company and was the
Executive Director of Dodge Nature Center. Dr. Metzen currently
serves as a Regent at the University of Minnesota (and has for 8
years) and held the role of Regent Chair from 2003-2005.
Dr. Metzen connects well with his audiences, using his gift of
humor and story telling based on true-life experiences. At the
same time, his message reveals easy-to-put-into-practice
techniques that participants can use immediately in their lives,
whether at work or at home. Each presentation or workshop is
tailor-made to focus on the challenges and goals of the
individual organization.

Testimonials:
(Taken from excerpts from thank you and recommendation letters
sent to Dr. Metzen)
“You did a great job of energizing, challenging and celebrating
life in District 206. Your presentation was most refreshing and
the staff’s positive comments continue to flow my way. Thanks
for your great message and I am confident it will have a lasting
impact. You are an amazing talent and an educator who truly
“walks the talk”", Ric Dressen, Superintendent,
Alexandria Public Schools.
“Dr. Metzen spoke to two or our educational business
entrepreneurial groups in China where his presentation focused
on leadership and change. He was absolutely outstanding! We are
already making plans to have him back!”, Lena Lin, Fazheng Group, Bejing, China.
“Thank you so very much for the absolutely wonderful
presentation that you delivered at our company retreat. The
extra effort that you put forth to learn about our issues was
very noticeable. Then, your ability to skillfully craft your
presentation materials to address those specific topics was
fantastic. Due to your preparation, your message hit upon each
of the topics we wanted to target. As a presenter, you simply
have that ability to command respect and attentiveness, deliver
an understandable and compelling message, and quite honestly,
get everyone so fired up! I will spread the word about you and
your organization.”, Ken Rohlf, Partner, LeVander, Gillen & Miller, P.A.
“Dr. Metzen is an excellent motivational speaker and workshop
facilitator on the qualities and assets needed to be a top-notch
leader. He has the capability of lifting others to a higher
level and does so with a directness that many would find
refreshing.”, Dr. Charles Kyte, Executive Director,
Minnesota Association of School Administrators.
“I am so fortunate that we were referred to Dr. Metzen and that
he was able to provide our conference with such an upbeat and
motivational closing. He took the time to meet with me and learn
more about Saint Paul Public Schools and the audience he would
be speaking to. By doing so, Dave provided insightful and
thought-provoking information which engaged our 180 attendees.
At the conclusion of his presentation, he was approached by
numerous members of the audience. Rarely, have I seen this,
particularly after a participant has just completed 30 hours of
training!”, Denise Quinlan, Director, The Center
for Academic Excellence, Saint Paul Public Schools.
